Horrible Service | Steak N Shake review from San Francisco, California

On Saturday, December 13th, we received the most horrible service at the Steak and Shake on Pleasant Hill (location 2110 Pleasant Hill Rd, Duluth, GA 30096). After being seated, we immediately placed our order. We soon began to notice that there was an overall issue with the service received by all customers. The table right next to us (set up for about 20 people) was empty, with the exception of dirty plates, cups, etc. from a part that left. We were there for about an hour and fifteen minutes; the table was never cleaned while we were there. Approximately 35 minutes after placing our order, we realized that it was taking an extraordinarily long time to get our food. There were several servers in staff that evening (at least it seemed like it); however, no food was coming out of the kitchen. After about 10 more minutes, we requested a status on when we were to expect our meal. Our server responded with “about 10-15 more minutes. Please note: the order was placed 45 minutes prior, we ordered a triple, onion rings, fries, and 2 shakes. The waitress never came back to the table, except when requested by us. Our water glasses were well empty. The service was so back that two couples actually left before being able to order food, seemingly out of frustration that the ordering process was taking so long. After the server left, we asked an off duty server who seemed to be lingering around what the issue in the kitchen was. We were told that the manager was pregnant, not feeling well, and went home sick. We were also told that servers were going back to make their own orders. We asked to speak to the manager; the server pointed him out. When we flagged him down, he looked at us, kept walking, and promptly left the store. The evening culminated with us FINALLY getting our food after an hour. My boyfriend, who is allergic to pickles, pointed out that there were a TON of pickles on the burger. The server proceeded to go back to the kitchen and come back 10 seconds later with the SAME burger (we noticed the drag marks where she obviously took off the pickles). Upon inquiry, her response was “what, did you want another bun?” It was at this point that we decided to leave without consuming any of the food. We’ve both been to other locations, and have NEVER received the type of service we received that night. Please pass this formal complaint to the manager, and ask hat s/he research the issue further. My wife and I went to this Steak n Shake after I picked her up from work at 11pm. When we got there, there was only one table with customers, yet we stood at seating sign for 5 minutes as employees went back and forth, including right past us to go to their car and come back, without acknowledging us. When they did seat us, my wife had mentioned how long it had taken to the manager, who'd finally come to us. When she went back into the kitchen, I'd gone to the bathroom. When I came back, my wife looked upset, wasn't talking much during the meal, and didn't even eat much of it. I didn't find out until later that while I was int he bathroom, the manager, while in the kitchen, started making jokes about my wife's weight. She's a well carried, curvy 240lbs, and the manager said "No wonder she wants to be seated, she's 500 pounds!" and then the whole kitchen was laughing. This was easily heard from the kitchen, all the way to the other side of the restaurant where we were seated. It bothered my wife and ruined our night and dinner. Working service and retail, I understand that you sometimes make fun of customers. Whatever, but blatently doing it where they can hear, especially by a manager, is highly unprofessional. We won't be eating there again.

While we have eaten at Steak N Shakes many times in our 41 years of marriage, the two constants are good food and lousy service. We were at a store yesterday, there were 4 customers, 9 employees, and you still had to wait to be acknowledged, menu's given, and finally order taken. While waiting, we were entertained with the Manager and employee discussing the employee's duties. Whether bussing tables or doing the dishes. Apparently the employee was quite agitated, as he remarked " in other words, I'm just @#*#!!!!! While not really offended, the manager should have taken the employee to the "office" for this type of discussion. We never were approached for more drinks or given our bill. We got up and asked for more drinks and also to finally get our bill. I wish I could say this was a rare occasion. Thanks, Bill & Sharon Hutchens, 1901 Oaktree St., St. Peters, MO 63376

Waited 19 mins to get seated. 10 tables dirty no manager seen. Finally got seated waitress couldn't count that 4 people at the table brought only 3 sets of silverware(lol). This Rock Hill location really sucks. I would not recommend it to anyone!!! There fanatical about customer service is a joke they don't give a *** here!!!

Visited store no.560 this is the filthiest restaurant . No paper towels in the restroom. The floors look like they are swept let alone washed. I am really dissapointed because I really like your food. Its a shame but I can't go back there. If I was the health dept. I would shut you down. Maybe they should get a call. There is no excuse it shouldn't be clean.

The problem is not the food. Order has been wrong every single time. They make it how they want, no substitutions and assure you everything was checked. Employees and manger could care less, won't call me back. I hate this location, infuriating every single time. I will never be back!!! My wife loves S&S and once a month or so I used to purchase around $30+ worth of breakfast items to go, because of how its packaged I don't really like to check the multiple food items because there are so many items to drag out-and I shouldn't have to! I ask them to just check and just make sure the 4 Egg/bacon biscuits have no cheese(allergy) on them. "Oh yes Honey, I checked everything," I get home, Cheese on every one of them, pancake syrup leaking everywhere, 1 breakfast platter missing. Called the manager around 11am 12/13/14 and asked to be refunded, promised to call me back......still waiting I told you I was going to post a bad review if you didn't call me back! I really enjoy the S&S in Hallandale, Fl the difference in quality and employees are night and day. Stick a fork in the Tulsa location we deserve better.

People on probation/parole are required to work so they're a lot more likely to show up. Businesses also get tax credits for employing felons.You know ehats really unfair?

The discrimination felons receive after they get out of jail and try to get their lives together.

EVERYONE commits some type of crime in their life. Some just don't get caught.

I work at Steak in shake. The milk shakes arent made out of ice cream.

They are are made by a Unflavored frozen milk shake base. Which we scoop into a can add banana, chocolate, vanilla.. etc. Syrup into it with milk then spin it on a spinning with takes about 30 seconds some times longer depending on how frozen then stuff is.

If you want Real banana then you would have to order a specialty shake which is a ulitimate banana, strawbanana or chocobanana shakes. Side by sides and classic banana shakes are made with syrup not the actual banana u would pay the extra 69 cents for.
